Ep #17: Mental Health & Suicide – A Mom’s Perspective

The stats tell a very sad story of bullying…

20% (1 out of every 5) middle and high school students report being bullied each year (National Center for Education Statistics [NCES], 2019)

Youth who are bullied are at increased risk for depression, anxiety, sleep difficulties, lower academic achievement, and dropping out of school (Centers for Disease Control [CDC], 2019)

Students who experienced bullying or cyberbullying are nearly 2 times more likely to attempt suicide (Hinduja & Patchin, 2018)

Suicide ideation and attempts among adolescents have nearly doubled since 2008 (Plemmons et al., 2018), making suicide the 2nd leading cause of death for individuals 10-34 years of age (CDC, 2019)

In this podcast, a mom shares her story following the suicide of her 12-year-old daughter in hopes of helping other parents and kids and warning them of the dangers of social media and online communities.
